چکیده

Hibernoma is a rare benign tumour of brown fat. It is also known as lipoma of brown adipose tissue, lipoma glandular and atypical lipoma. The hibernoma was first described by Merkelin 1906, who called it Pseudolipoma. The name hibernoma is derived from its histological similarity to the brown fat of hibernating animals. They have been found in the neck, back, popliteal space, thighs, axilla, abdominal wall and the mediastinum. They may recur if not completely excised. Malignant change in hiberqoma is not known to occur. The purpose of this study is to document the cinicopatbological and microscopic features of this rare tumour. An attempt is also made to ascertain its relative frequency to other tumours arising from fatty tissue.

A Rare Case of Retropharyngeal Hibernoma.

Hibernoma is a slow growing, rare benign tumour, which derived from brown adipose tissue. This tumour is usually found in the area where foetal fat persists such as back, axilla, retro peritoneum and thorax. Hibernoma rarely occurs in the retro pharynx. We report a case of retropharyngeal hibernoma in a 44-year-old male. He presented with obstructive symptoms for six months and a retropharyngea...

Hibernoma of the thigh: a report of four cases.

Hibernoma is a rare benign adypocyte tumour of brown fat. We report on 4 patients with hibernoma of the thigh. Clinical features and magnetic resonance imaging suggested the tumours were liposarcomas, but biopsy yielded the diagnosis of hibernoma. All 4 patients underwent complete excision of the tumour and had no recurrence.

Intramuscular Hibernoma of the Scapular Region Misdiagnosed on Cytology as a Malignant Lesion: A Report of a Rare Case

Hibernomas are extremely rare benign tumors of adipose tissue characterized by an admixture of brown fat cells with granular, multivacuolated cytoplasm and white fat cells. Hibernomas account for 1.6% of benign adipose tissue tumors and approximately 1.1% of all adipocytic tumors. Around 10% of these cases are intramuscular. It was initially described in the early 1900s as being composed of bro...

Mediastinal hibernoma: a case report.

Hibernomas are rare benign tumours that arise most often in adults from the remnants of fetal brown adipose tissue. They usually affect muscle and subcutaneous tissue and are asymptomatic and slow growing. The distribution of this tumour follows the sites of persistence of brown fat. Out of more then 100 cases described in the word literature only three hybernomas were mediastinal. A recent cli...

Hibernoma of the para-glottic space: an unusual tumour of the larynx.

Hibernoma is an unusual tumour of brown adipose tissue. Brown adipose tissue is common in mammalian hibernating animals and acts as a thermogenic organ. A first case of hibernoma was reported in 1906 by Merkel. This tumour usually arises in the back, shoulder region, mediastinum, retroperitoneum and in the neck. The neck location of hibernomas is rare and only 18 cases of cervical hibernoma hav...
